This is a hack that takes the basic premise of Hot Guys Making Out - a slow burn gay romance during the Spanish Civil War - and transplants it to a grammar school in South Yorkshire at the height of the Miners Strike in the early '80s, heavily inspired by coming-of-age films like Billy Elliot, Beautiful Thing, and History Boys. Simon King is a daydreamer who wants to get out of the small town he feels trapped in, while coming to grips with his sexuality. Jack Winthrop is a brilliant but troubled student, suffering at home as his father spirals deeper into alcoholism. Together we explore their budding romance as they struggle against the obstacles in their way.
