not sure how many times you said that dragons played as a bag of hit points is boring, but it was a lot...

we got it, no dragons as bags of hit points, great insight (cough).

and yeah, back in the old days of 1e/2e, we had dragon encounters, one or two, and they were terrifying because the breath weapon did massive damage, so it was save or almost die for the squishier classes.

The lack of dragons is weird. I wrote a long sandbox AD&D campaign back in the 80s. The very first encounter, at level 1, was a small red dragon.

That said, Rise of Tiamat was a deathly dull 5e campaign, and we stopped half way through the fight with the titular creature, and never went back to finish it.

I mostly play 13th Age now, and there is no shortage of dragons.
