I'm always interested in the debate between prep and prepless games. My long running Trail of Cthulhu game is largely prepless and improvised at the table. If we're short on clues to follow up. I'll throw in a manuscript, a weird claw, a piece of art and see if the players bite. Generally I'll have no idea what it is at that point. And even if they don't I'll reincorporate it later at which point the apocalypse* clock will have ticked closer to midnight (*most apocalypses are fairly local and not Earth, or even continent destroying).

I don't have any random tables as such, although I do have a folklore generator which could be randomised, although I never have.

But then when I think about it, I've been reading Mythos fiction and playing games like this for 40 years, so that's my prep. So I'll probably put some numbers down the side of the table if anyone else wants to use it.
