Because "B2: Keep on the Borderlands" was a retrofit, I think this counts as your first Mystara episode. Yesno?

I ran this years ago (not quite as long ago as 1984) with the standard BECM D&D rules and I've always wanted to return to it with more of a PbtA mindset. So much fun to hear the Red Moon crew + Tom mucking about in the streets of Specularum.

Speaking of Mystara, I'd love to hear your perspectives on the old TSR Mystara Gazetteer series. My initial instincts are that they are waaaaaaaaaay too prescriptive to be of any use to a 'modern' narrative gameplay approach (and, as Jason might say, very "Medieval McEurope") but still...

Interesting point about the cut-out stand-up figures in this 1984 adventure. I'll point out that simultaneously the TSR's 1984 Marvel Super Heroes game was a ruleset that explicitly expected play with counters on a city map that came with the game (distances given in "areas" and so forth), and their supplements came with an extravagant number of cut-out figures for every Marvel hero and villain you can think of, as well as buildings, tools, weapons, traps, etc. (especially products MHAC3 Adventure Fold-Up Figures and MHAC4 Pit of the Viper). So apparently there was impetus for that in-house; I'm not sure if it started on the Marvel side and bled into D&D or vice-versa.

Nice job

I've run this twice, back in the day. I meticulously cut out and assembled the houses, using them for their intended purpose, the first time. I later adapted the adventure for use in a higher level campaign, the second time.

I remember using the narrative bits for glimpses captured using a crystal ball, by one of the higher level spell-casters, the second time around.

1984 also saw the publication of Dave Cook's mini-adventure, also set in Karameikos, in AC2 "Treasure of the Hideous One" and similar cut-outs/"Dragon Tiles" were included in AC3 "The Kidnapping of Princess Arelina".

Dave Cook was of course one of the editors of the Expert Rulebook, in which Karameikos was first described.

Thanks for the excellent review and comments on Veiled Society module. I have read it years ago but never run it. I though it was horrible rail roaded.

After I listened your review I think that I give the module new opportunity.

This was so helpful. I'm running this tonight, and am not very experienced as a DM, so this gives me more confidence. I'm enjoying the special crossover episode now.
